Evaporative coolers use the evaporation of water to cool air. Water flows over a wetted medium and giving it a large surface area. Air flows over this medium, using its heat to evaporate the water. This cools the air and a fan then pushes the air into the room. This process is most efficient at higher temperatures and lower humidities. In addition to cooling, they can be used to remove odours.
